Applications are invited for scholarships to work at doctoral and post-doctoral level on migrants’ social protection strategies from a qualitative perspective. These positions are advertised in the framework of the ERC project Migration, Transnationalism and Social Protection in (post-)crisis Europe  (MiTSoPro) led by Dr. Jean-Michel Lafleur at the University of Liège.

Positions:
• Two doctoral positions: full-time, fixed-term position available for 3 years (with possible extension)

Four PhD grants on Democratic Governance – application deadline = June 30th

The Politics Department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is recruiting 4 PhD students within the broad domain of “Democratic Governance”. Deadline = June 30th. Six topics have been advanced by our research team:

  1. Democratic myopia and the environment/climate/sustainable development
  2. Brussels’ youth: enacting citizenship
  3. Opposition to gender equality in Western Europe
  4. Diversity politics in universities: gendered and racialized normativities
  5. Multiculturalism, post-secularism, and the politicization of ethical debates
  6. Disadvantaged groups’ feelings of being (mis)represented

Uitnodiging voor jongeren (15-30) om deel uit te maken van de IYAFP-familie (SRHR)

Wat is IYAFP? In het kort is IYAFP een internationale organisatie waarbij onderwerpen rond seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid en rechten (SRHR) behandeld worden door jongeren, voor jongeren (15-30 jaar). Het is een netwerkorganisatie die jongeren wilt helpen om een positieve impact te verwezenlijken op vlak van SRHR zowel lokaal, nationaal als internationaal.

IYAFP werkt met jongeren uit verschillende domeinen. Dit kunnen grassroot-activisten zijn, AIDS-advocacy, feministen, mensen uit de LGBTQI-community of uit allerlei andere jongerenorganisaties zoals bijvoorbeeld de Jeugdraad. Dit zorgt voor een diverse en dynamische groep waarbij we informatie die relevant is voor jongeren gemakkelijk met elkaar kunnen delen en onze eigen jonge geesten laten werken op ideeën voor projecten die anders het licht niet zouden zien.

Oproep tot deelname aan Transgender Europe Congres

Van 28 juni tot 1 juli vindt er voor het eerst in ons land het Transgender Europe Congres plaats, de grootste bijeenkomst voor trans* activisten in Europa.

Naast deelnemers aan het congres is de organisatie ook op zoek naar vrijwilligers en open space facilitators om de workshops te begeleiden.

Seminar “Gender, Borders and Human Rights” – 28 May 2018

On 28 May 2018, the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University is organizing a seminar entitled “Gender, Borders and Human Rights” at the Faculty Board Room of Ghent Law Faculty (Voldersstraat 3, 9000 Gent).  

The seminar will bring together experts to discuss different notions of borders – not only the most obvious ones sustained by immigration controls – and how these borders limit the human rights of migrants and asylum seekers of diverse genders and sexual orientations. What kinds of borders come to shape the human rights of migrants and asylum seekers of different sexual orientations and genders? How do these groups of migrants and asylum seekers navigate – and in turn shape – these borders when they make human rights claims? Is the notion of borders a useful lens to identify and challenge the gendered societal and institutional structures that disadvantage migrants and asylum seekers in enjoying human rights?

NOISE Summer School 2018: Social and Political Suffocations (27-31 August)

The 26th edition of the NOISE Summer School seeks to address experiences of social and political suffocations, as well as accompanying strategies of resistance, through a series of lectures by scholars and activists who are all also embodied practitioners in their critical practice(s). With these, the five-day program of NOISE 2018 will offer innovative interventions into the debate on political involvement as theory and embodied practice, as well as a discussion of strategies of organizing in the face of individual, institutional and structural enclosures.

Workshop Alternatives sorcières

De laatste jaren kent hekserij als denkbeeld een heropleving, voornamelijk binnen het activisme van kunstenaars, feministen, queers en ecologisten. Als reactie tegen onderdrukking streven ze naar een meer ethische en minder individualistische bestaansorde. Dit maakt hekserij vandaag tot een metafoor voor militant anders-zijn, een andere manier van leven, leren en de wereld begrijpen. Tijdens een zesdaagse workshop zorgen choreografe Latifa Laâbissi en curatrice Anna Colin voor een fysische en theoretische verkenning van de hedendaagse figuur van de heks. Met teksten, ficties, reconstitutie, lichaamspraktijken, filosofische en antropologische inzichten zorgt Alternatives sorcières voor een immersie in de historische verbeelding en beleving van de heks.
